What is Hoops 4 Hope?

As a basketball player at the University of Washington, I came upon this great definition of Success. It inspired me then to be more than just a player. More than just a coach. It inspires me now to be more than just a wife and a mother. It really inspires me to be like our Savior Jesus Christ. And until I am like him, I must keep striving to be my very best. Ralph Waldo Emerson said:
"To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."

I have been so blessed during these past few months to meet some incredible children with some big obstacles to overcome. I am so proud of them for their battles with cancer. I love them and wanted to serve them in any way possible. And I felt inspired to use some of my love of basketball to bless their lives too! I am hosting a Community Cancer Basketball Clinic in Litchfield, MN to raise money for these children with cancer. I know that I can't reach everyone that would want to help...so I decided to reach out through the internet which can be such a valuable tool to network for good. So the blog evolved!

The little boy that inspired this all is named Dallin Struk. I was his Primary Teacher at church. He is a Sunbeam, not only in class, but as a person. He is full of life and energy and a love of learning. He turns 4 years old this December...(Thus the "4" in the title) and I want to fight "4" him and "4" his family and "4" all who are bravely fighting this battle.

If you would like to join me, I know Dallin and his little family would love your support.

Here's how you can be apart of the Basketball Fundraiser:

Click on the ChipIn Widget on the side of this blog. All donations will be secure and are ran through PayPal, Inc.

Read about Dallin's Story on his Caring Bridge website. You'll love to learn about this special boy.

Pray for Dallin. And Cherish each moment you have to live and help others live with joy.

Enjoy the true meaning of CHRISTmas!

Know that I love you too!

You too know the true meaning of SUCCESS!

Lots of Love, Malinda :)
